Getting Started
This was my first IT job and my first real experience as a designer. KB Mobile Banking was a big project, made up of three apps: Retail, Business, and Skyline (for Slovakia). The apps were very successful and even won “Banking App of the Year” several times.
Learning by Doing
During my first year, I mostly watched and helped with small tasks nobody else wanted. I prototyped a lot in Axure and Protopie and slowly started working on simple features. I learned from UX Researchers how to talk to users, ask good questions, and really listen to what people need. I also learned how important it is to choose the right people for testing.
Facing Challenges
At first, I struggled with handing off my designs to developers. I didn’t understand what happened to my work after I finished it, and sometimes I designed things that were too hard or even impossible to build. This made me want to learn coding, so I could better understand the tech side.
Learning to Code
I love Apple products, so I started learning Swift and SwiftUI. I took an iOS Udemy Bootcamp, finished “100 Days of Hacking with Swift,” and even went to an onsite bootcamp at STRV. I built over 20 simple apps, each one teaching me something new. For my final project, I made a mobile banking app using our Figma designs, with FaceID, user management, product offers, and even a Bitcoin price feature.

Finding My Path
Even though I learned a lot about coding, I realized I didn’t want to be a full-time developer. I enjoy making decisions and shaping the product, which is more of a designer’s job. But learning to code helped me understand developers, their challenges, and how to work better with them.
Growing as a Designer
After about a year, I became the only designer on the mobile banking team. I moved up to a mid-level role and took on more responsibility. I designed and shipped important features like Instant Payment by default, Pay a Contact, Login via QR code, and Consumer Loan.
What I Learned
This project shaped me as a designer. I learned how to work with developers, make compromises to meet deadlines, and improve designs based on user feedback. My skills grew fast, and I became more confident in both design and teamwork.
Contributing to a New App
I also began contributing to the development of a brand-new banking app, which later became the foundation for our corporate banking solution.
